Gushi Sensei has thrilled visitors to the Japanese garden on many occasions with his powerful exhibitions of old style karate, which often feature the breaking of large pieces of wood with the hands, and multiple baseball bats with bare shins. Fierce and intimidating, he has the appearance of an ancient warrior plucked from an historic battlefield in some distant land to the east.
To those who know him well however, he is a gentle man, a grandfather, and a musician. Much in demand as a teacher of karate, he travels the world giving instruction in facilities as prestigious as the British Olympic Training Centre at Bisham Abbey, the former home of King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I.
