THE
KAWANA PAVILION An Overview
The Kawana Pavilion project is intended to move forward the vision
and growth of the Japanese Garden public usage and educational program
established by the Mayor's Citizens Advisory committee and the City's
Bureau of Sanitation by constructing a permanent building for public
education on wastewater reclamation and water reuse through the
visionary vehicle of the Japanese Garden which provides cultural
enrichment and usage for the citizens of Los Angeles with its evolving
multifaceted and expanding program.
The current program has grown with the volunteer help of its citizens
and has outgrown the current support resources. through the Mayor's
Citizens Advisory Committee in cooperation with the Bureau of Sanitation
a study was completed which identified the need to establish a Kawana
Pavilion at the Japanese Garden in Van Nuys.
The Kawana Pavilion Center is targeted for permanent and continued
support of its Docent and Volunteer programs which provide tours,
special events and public outreach. The center will also be used
to carry out the City's mission of educating and informing the citizens
of Los Angeles on issues relating to water collection, treatment
and reuse which is vital for the future in this arid region.
The projects vision is also to provide a informational library on
Japanese culture and environmental concerns, be a focal point for
Valley focused community activities, enhance the current rental
program and be a resource for the City in conducting its daily business. |
